Last August I joined Warwick Lanterne Rouge Cycle Club. After 10 years of riding around mostly on my own I decided that I needed to join a club again to remain motivated during the winter. Having tried other clubs in the past I was reticent about joining another one. It took just one ride to convince me this was the place for me. WLRCC is an inclusive and social club first. If you want to push yourself to get fitter and go further, faster, you can. But you don't have to. The reality is that most of us improve in leaps and bounds if we ride regularly with others, to say nothing of the pleasure of socialising with like-minded people.
Today I am off on the club's inaugural tour, which will see 24 of us spend three days in Mallorca together. Actually I am leaving two days before everyone else. Partly because I can and partly because it means I can test out a few things in preparation for the Adventure (this is my new shorthand for the trip in June/July). I will puck up my rental bike for the week from the Rapha store in Palma and ride it 65km across the island to Puerto Pollenca, a place a love riding from previous visits.
