For people who love to scrutinise the details in the results, they are set out below
David covered the greatest distance, spent the most time moving on a bike and was the furthest from his start point in a straight line at the finish. A truly incredible effort covering nearly 800km in just 48 hours.
James rode the furthest of all those who started from Warwick and also climbed the highest elevation by some distance. Could he have gone further with some better (flatter) route planning?
Simon was actually not far behind James in the end but perhaps suffered by doing too much on Saturday and not leaving enough in the tank for Sunday.
Kimbo rode at the fastest average speed overall, but was unlucky to have the worst of the weather all day Sunday. He will probably reflect on his ride and think he went too short on Friday evening/night and spent too much time off the bike
I was happy with my efforts but I clearly had more in the tank. Like Kimbo, I should have gone further on Friday and spent less time off the bike faffing about.
Rachel was only just behind me but was faster and had a better, flatter route. But like others, she underestimated her own ability to ride further and spent the least time on the bike of any of the finishers.
Dave was doing fine until his repeated mechanical slowed him down and eventually stopped him early. He knows he can ride much further and will no doubt come back much stronger.
Ben and Marnie rode together and despite having done very little training, never ridden multi-day and never gone bikepacking, they managed lifetime best results. They can be very pleased with their efforts and I hope they return in 2023.
Ieuan is most likely the only unhappy rider this year. His knee injury stopped him from riding any further and knowing how capable he is of pushing himself to the limit, I can only imagine it must have been very painful indeed.
I am going to add some further reflections on the event once I finish editing the damn video which has been way harder than I anticipated!
